A Merry Christmas, around the world!

It’s Christmas time! And thanks to you, the kids we serve around the world are celebrating in style!

Every year our staff works very hard to throw a big Christmas party in each of our program locations, and it’s your Love Pak gifts that make it possible. The basics at each party are the same: yummy food, a special present to let each child know they’re loved, and a retelling of the nativity story. At the heart of each party is a celebration of Jesus’ birth. But beyond that, each country infuses the party with their own traditions.

It’s so much fun to see the different ways kids celebrate! Here’s a brief look at past Love Pak parties around the world, to help you visualize how our kids are celebrating this year:

In Kenya, they get pretty creative to decorate their trees – it might not look like your Christmas tree, but the kids love it! They also share cake. One young man told us he never gets to eat cake – sometimes he sees it at a wedding, but never actually gets to taste it. So a piece of cake for every child is a big deal!

In Uganda, they break out the drums!

In Thailand, our kids had so much fun getting dressed up, and performing a traditional dance. They also enjoyed a special Christmas feast with Thai delicacies.

In India last year, some of the children received badminton sets in their Love Pak gifts – they couldn’t wait to get a game going! They also loved dressing up for their nativity play, especially little Indushree who got to be an angel.

Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka they decorate with balloons, and spend the day playing games…and of course, opening gifts!

In Mexico the kids love getting creative with face paint and fun Christmas crafts like paper snowflakes. They also share a yummy Christmas pancake breakfast!

In Haiti they pull out the Christmas hats and decorate with paper chains. The kids love their Love Paks filled with things like new flip flops and candy. But the best part is hearing the nativity story!

And in Peru, they can’t help but sing!

I hope these brief glimpses of Love Pak Christmas parties get you excited for your own Christmas celebrations! And I hope you are encouraged as you celebrate, knowing that children around the world are celebrating Jesus’ birth too!

Merry Christmas!
