This year has been a crazy whirlwind like no other. And since Christmas is just around the bend, it’s time to start making our Christmas gift lists. With COVID-19 changing the way we do everything, I want to send gifts that have an even deeper impact than ever before, especially to loved ones I don’t get to see in person very often.
Thankfully, this year’s Childcare Worldwide Gift Catalog is here to help!
The Christmas Catalog has so many fantastic gifts to change the lives of children in need. But it’s even more wonderful when you realize that you can Double the Good by giving ‘in honor’ of your friends and loved ones.
I am inspired by how donors just like you find ways to give gifts that not only bring our loved ones joy, but also change the lives of needy children around the world.
People like Nancy, one of our wonderful staff members, are so creative with their giving. Nancy lives in Washington State and loves giving her grandchildren meaningful gifts at Christmas. Nine years ago, she was trying to think of a special way to help teach them about the true joy of giving. That’s when a fuzzy, red, blanket caught her eye and everything clicked. She could give a needy child the mosquito net she saw in the Gift Catalog in honor of her grandchildren! And, as a special reminder of the nets ‘they’ gave, she could give them these blankets she bought from the store. Now her grandkids have a constant reminder that they had a part of making another child’s life safer and happier.
It has been nine years since she started this special way of Doubling the Good, and each year brings fresh excitement as she pages through the Childcare Worldwide Gift Catalog, deciding what fun gift combination she will do this year. One year she gave towards a water filtration tank for needy families, and water bottles to her grandchildren. Another year, she gave Happy Feet Paks containing new shoes to children in need, and special socks to her grandkids. Every year is a new surprise for her family.
Nancy says, “I now have 14 grandkids … and they are guessing what Nana will do each year, long before the family Christmas party. It's a big secret and there's lots of anticipation to find out the gifts 'they have given'. They've caught on to the excitement and joy of giving to others. It's now a wonderful family tradition!”
Nancy’s excitement is contagious, and as I page through all the wonderful gifts in the catalog, I am suddenly inspired. I know a certain chicken-lover in my family that will be receiving a Coop O’ Chickens and I can’t wait to Double the Good, just like Nancy!
The Gift Catalog has many life-changing gifts and it is so much fun to page through and dream of the children who will receive them, and of the look on a loved one’s face as they realize that they were a special part of changing a child’s life.
How will you Double the Good this year? I look forward to hearing your stories of how you gave the gift of giving this Christmas.
