A Place for Transforming Lives April 3, 2020

We love sharing stories about our kids. The easiest ones to tell are the dramatic ones – a child being baptized, a life-saving intervention… but sometimes it is the quiet, “behind the scenes” efforts that have the biggest impact. (more…)

Transforming Lives through Life Centers March 12, 2020

The old adage, “seeing is believing” took on a new meaning for me on a recent trip to Kenya and Uganda. I was there with the goal of learning more about Childcare Worldwide’s programs and the people that we serve, yet, it was seeing the children that left the biggest impression on me. Many people say that they had not seen true poverty until they visited the developing world. While this is true in a physical sense, I have also never seen life transformation in the same way as I saw it in Africa. For me, the best parts of the trip were my visits to our Life Centers.  (more…)

A Powerful Testimony February 27, 2020

Anybody who has ever worked in youth ministry knows how important good adult leaders are. That’s why we spend so much time investing in our Life Center teachers – and why we’re so grateful for wonderful teachers like Ritah in Uganda. (more…)

Baptisms in Peru! February 20, 2020

Here at Childcare Worldwide, we have a lot of good days – God blesses this ministry in so many ways. But the best days of all are the days we hear about our kids making public declarations of their faith in Christ. (more…)

Mosquito Monsters October 4, 2019

For something so small, they cause a lot of damage. In many parts of the world mosquitos are far more than just an annoying little bug. They are dangerous and even deadly. Why? Because mosquitos carry the malaria virus. Malaria is a big problem for developing countries, and it’s one we can’t afford to ignore. Here’s why: Sick kids can’t attend Life Centers. Our Life Centers offer children a space to meet Jesus and grow in their faith. But when kids get sick with malaria, they’re too weak to come their Life Centers, often for weeks or even months on end. That means no Bible lessons, no discipleship with their Life Center teachers, no new songs about Jesus, and no memory verses. (more…)

There is Power in the Word August 12, 2019

If you’re like me, you probably have multiple copies of God’s Word in your house. You might have a big study Bible, a pocket New Testament, a family Bible with births and marriages recorded in the front, a kids Bible, and more. Not to mention all the versions available to you online. But what if you didn’t have access to any Bibles? Can you imagine your Christian walk without the Word? That’s what life was like for 12-year-old Diana in Kenya. Even though Diana grew up in a Christian home, she never had a Bible of her own. And without consistent access to God’s Word, she never truly understood the Good News. (more…)

What is a Life Center? August 5, 2019

Life Centers are the heart of Childcare Worldwide, because Life Centers provide children with a place to meet Jesus! Every child needs to hear the Good News of Jesus. As a ministry, we’re committed to helping children not only hear that Good News, but understand what it means for them as individuals. And we do that by partnering with local churches to run Life Centers – our children’s discipleship program. At each Life Center, groups of 30-50 children gather every Saturday for hours of God-centered fun. Most of the children are involved in our sponsorship program, but other children (more…)

Edith’s Answered Prayer July 29, 2019

Here at Childcare Worldwide, our whole purpose is to transform children’s lives through the Gospel. So when we hear stories like Edith’s, we get pretty excited. I think you’ll be excited too! Edith is a 13-year-old girl who lives in Kenya. Her parents work hard to provide for her, but she is the youngest of six siblings. Their meager income has to stretch a long way to provide for all of them. They live together in small, three-room house with an outdoor kitchen. It’s cramped and uncomfortable, but Edith finds joy in being together with her big family. She does not find much joy in poverty, however. How could she? She knows how stressed her parents are about finding enough money for food and rent. Watching them struggle, Edith started to take on some of that stress and worry herself. Thankfully, Edith was sponsored through Childcare Worldwide! (more…)

Field Notes from Uganda March 4, 2019

Bill returned from his first visit to Africa last week, and is heading to India shortly. But before the next trip we wanted to share some highlights from his time in Uganda! I’m in Uganda! Uganda is really growing on me! It’s so much different than Kenya. It’s really green everywhere, with leafy trees and dense jungle. The country really is beautiful, and its people are very welcoming. I packed a lot into my time in Uganda. First, we visited St. Luke’s Life Center in Entebbe. (more…)

Field Notes from Kenya February 14, 2019

I’m here! After many airline delays, and rerouted flights, I finally made it to Kenya. And so far, my visit has been so much fun! INTRODUCTIONS Our first stop was to a Life Center. Bavuni School is a church where children visit on Saturday mornings to learn Christian Character Building (CCB) from a curriculum produced by Childcare Worldwide (CCW). They learn Bible verses to memory, sing songs, and then have a lunch of porridge and juice. Our visit was with the pastor, children and some of their parents. The children sang and recited scripture. The pastor delivered a short message, then my colleague Peter Horne (affiliated with CCW since its beginning) told a story on character that was quite animated. The kids laughed as Peter told them that God sees everything they do, and that because of Jesus Christ, they are forgiven. I stood up and greeted the crowd, sending well wishes from the staff at CCW. I loved meeting the kids and seeing their school. (more…)
