As you all know, our world is in crisis right now. The last few weeks have presented many new challenges for us to navigate as a ministry, but God has been so faithful to us, every step of the way!

From the beginning, our first priority has been the health and safety of our staff and the children we serve. Along with our staff here in Washington, the staff in each of our countries have transitioned to working remotely. And in accordance with lockdown measures put in place in each location, our Life Centers have temporarily closed as well.

But even a global pandemic can’t stop us from sharing the Gospel with kids and meeting their needs.

We are very grateful for the extraordinary networks of pastors and Life Center teachers that we have living in each of the communities we serve. Through their efforts, we have been able to stay in touch with our kids and meet any needs they might have.

As we’ve all learned while social distancing, even just one person checking in can make a big difference! The fact that our Life Center teachers live in these communities, and can offer our kids prayer support and remind them that Jesus loves them – even in the middle of a crisis – is invaluable!

For many families, this is a time of even greater economic uncertainty than usual. To help, we’re stepping in with basic, practical assistance wherever we can.

In Sri Lanka last week we distributed food packages to our sponsored children in Colombo. Community Concern, our partner in Sri Lanka, was able to procure a large amount of dry goods, including rice, flour, and more, and then deliver them directly to our kids. For families trying to survive in lockdown, many of whom are unable to work right now, these food packages are such a blessing!

We are also delivering food packages in Peru. Over the past few days, our staff there have collected over 1000 pounds of noodles, hundreds of pounds of lentils, and many other staple foods. Now they are assembling it all into individual food packages which they will begin delivering to our children this weekend.

In the coming days we hope to reach every single one of the children that attends a Life Center in Peru. We’re grateful that our staff in Peru have the proper social work and pastoral licenses that allow them to legally do this work, even in the midst of the lockdown. For families who were already living on the edge, and who now suddenly find themselves unable to work, getting this food into their hands is so important!

Best of all, we’re happy to share that none of our kids or staff have been infected by COVID-19. We’re praising God for His protection of our people and this ministry!

Please continue to keep the ministry, and especially our children, in your prayers! We have already seen so much evidence of God’s grace in the midst of this pandemic, and rest in the knowledge that He will bring us all through this.
