The Water of Life

Providing clean water for children in need is one of our best opportunities to impact their future. Clean water frees up time for school and play. It also promotes health, keeping kids out of the hospital and even saving lives. Ask any clean water organization about their purpose, and their answer will include those two things: time and health.

But for us, there’s a third reason we’re committed to clean water, and it’s the most important reason of all: the Gospel! You see, giving children clean water is an amazing opportunity to share with them about the Living Water! Here’s how it works:

Church Partnerships

We partner with local churches for all our clean water projects. We build our catchment systems on church property and distribute our household filters through the church.

That means that children and their families are visiting church every day for water – for some, it’s the first time they’ve ever set foot on church property! This gives the pastor and his team a great opportunity to meet them, get to know them, and invite them to come back for services on Sunday.

Spiritual Growth

When children’s basic needs are met, their hearts can open to the Gospel. When you’re in survival mode, it’s hard to focus, or learn and grow. Jesus, of course, is always at work in kids’ lives, even if they are in survival mode.. But when you give a child back four hours (or more!) of their day, it gives them the mental and emotional space for reflection, dreams, and big thoughts. And that can lead to heart transformation.

The gift of clean water frees children from so much stress – and we’re seeing amazing spiritual growth because of it.

The Gospel in Action – long-term!

Hearts aren’t always transformed overnight. And that’s why our clean water projects are long-term! When we build a new catchment system, that church is empowered to support their communities’ water needs for many years to come. It’s a long-term opportunity to model Christ’s love in a tangible way!

We’re not just telling people “be blessed” and then abandoning them – this isn’t a short-term missions, “one-and-done” project. Along with our partner churches, we’re invested in each community. We’re there for all the ups and downs of life – the births, the deaths, the joys, the heartbreaks…and we’re offering clean water through it all. I can’t think of a better way to demonstrate God’s love!
